The first joint meeting of representatives of Serbia in the Open Method of Coordination in education and training, and members of the national working group was held on Wednesday, 1 April 2015 in Belgrade. The aim of the meeting was to constitute the national working groups, that are organized in accordance with the OMC groups on the EU level. The main task of the national working groups is to provide support to representatives of Serbia in their participation in the OMC, as well as to use this mechanism, in the best way possible, for improving the education system in Serbia.
The meeting was opened by Srdjan Verbic, Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, Ambassador Michael Davenport, Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Serbia and Zarko Sunderic, manager of the Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit of Serbian Government.
In the first part of the meeting Mirjana Bojanic, special advisor to the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development and Jelena Markovic, coordinator for education and human capital development of the Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit of Serbian Government, presented the way the OMC works and indicated the importance of establishing national groups that will deal with identical issues in the field of education and training.
The second part of the meeting was consecrated on the work of the individual groups, where representatives of Serbia in the OMC informed members of the national working group about the activities of their OMC groups at EU level. Another topic of this part of the meeting was how the members of national thematic groups can support their representatives to the OMC EU and facilitate the transfer of knowledge and good practice to the national system.
Each national working group has defined the next steps and tasks and scheduled meetings aimed to deal with specific issues related to different areas of the education system in Serbia.
